7 Ways to Increase Engagement on Instagram
It seems like everyone is on Instagram and with over 1 billion monthly active users it definitely feels like it. Business owners are investing so much time on growing a following and with over 50% of users following brands, we know that those followers can quickly turn into sales. According to Forrester, engagement – measured by likes, shares and comments from consumers – is also off the chart, boasting a rate of 4.21%. That’s 10 times higher than Facebook, 54 times higher than Pinterest, and 84 times higher than Twitter but with recent algorythim changes based on engagement even showing up on people’s feed can feel impossible.
If you’re trying to grow a following on Instagram you need to be consistent but how much is too much? I recommend posting 1-2 times a day tops. Anything more than that just becomes over kill, especially if you don’t have a huge following. Times can vary but I recommend going into your Instagram insights. Once there you can click on audience. When you get to the audience insight you can scroll all the way down to see followers by hours and day. There you can figure out when the followers following your specific page are online. That’s when you want to post.
2. Follow the Data
I’m a geek who is obsessed with data and when it comes to social media it’s no different. Take advantage of the free data that you receive via insights. You can see if your following is more male or female, age range, what city they are in and more. Keep these number in mind when creating content.
For the most part the most successful brands on Instagram know how to tell a good story. I often have clients create a brand story by sharing their why? Why did they start the business? What obstacles did they have to overcome? What’s life like now? Humanizing your brand is important. People like to do business with people not corporations. So use IG to show the personality of your business and your team. Also when you get a new influx of followers don’t be scared to retell your story. Try adding a new bit of information or changing up the format in which you share it.
When I got invited to Facebook headquarters here in LA they wouldn’t stop raving about IGTV. This is their newest product which was released in the summer of 2018. The reps for IG told us to become early adopters and to keep an eye out for new features they’ll be rolling out. If you’re not on IGTV sign up today!
Don’t overdue it with hashtags, although Instagram allows for up to 30 of them, 91% of the top brands on IG use less than 7. Always test out different hashtags and the amount of them you use until you find the right fit for your brand.
7. Instagram Stories
Stories have so many cool features that can be used to promote your brand, product launches, or direct your audience to a specific websites. With over 40 million views a day stories can keep you in front of your customers eyes. One of the benefits of IG stories is that every time you post it keeps you in your followers feed. Stories also offer so many stickers, GIF’s, questions, and polls that can help you to keep stories really creative. One of my favorite adopters of great IG stories is @hijadetumadre I love seeing her stories for ideas on how to creatively use my own stories. Check out her IG for ideas.
